- January 16, 1992 – El Salvador officials and rebel leaders sign the Chapultepec Peace Accords in Mexico City ending the 12-year Salvadoran civil war that claimed at least 75,000.
- January 20, 1992 – Air Inter Flight 148 crashes near Strasbourg, France, killing 82 passengers and five crew members.
- January 22, 1992 – Rebel forces occupy Zaire’s national radio station in Kinshasa and broadcast a demand for the government’s resignation.
- January 26, 1992 – Boris Yeltsin announces that Russia will stop targeting United States cities with nuclear weapons.
- February 1, 1992 – The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Bhopal court declares Warren Anderson, ex-CEO of Union Carbide, a fugitive under Indian law for failing to appear in the Bhopal Disaster case.
- February 4, 1992 – New Year’s Day in Chinese calendar. Start of the year of the Water Monkey in Chinese astrology.
- March 6, 1992 – Michelangelo computer virus begins to affect computers.
- April 2, 1992 – In New York, Mafia boss John Gotti is convicted of murder and racketeering and is later sentenced to life in prison.
- April 9, 1992 – A U.S. Federal Court finds former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega guilty of drug and racketeering charges. He is sentenced to 30 years in prison.
- April 12, 1992 – The Euro Disney Resort officially opens with its theme park Euro Disneyland. The resort and its park’s name are subsequently changed to Disneyland Paris.
- April 18, 1992 – General Abdul Rashid Dostum revolts against President Mohammad Najibullah of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan and allies with Ahmed Shah Massoud to capture Kabul.
- May 9, 1992 – Armenian forces capture Shusha, marking a major turning point in the Karabakh War.
- May 13, 1992 – Li Hongzhi gives the first public lecture on Falun Gong in Changchun, People’s Republic of China.
- May 22, 1992 – After 30 years, 66-year-old Johnny Carson hosts The Tonight Show for the last time.
- May 24, 1992 – The last Thai dictator, General Suchinda Kraprayoon, resigns following pro-democracy protests.

- November 13, 1992 – The High Court of Australia rules in Dietrich v The Queen that although there is no absolute right to have publicly funded counsel, in most circumstances a judge should grant any request for an adjournment or stay when an accused is unrepresented.
- November 20, 1992 – In England, a fire breaks out in Windsor Castle, badly damaging the castle and causing over £50 million worth of damage.
- December 3, 1992 – A test engineer for Sema Group uses a personal computer to send the world’s first text message via the Vodafone network to the phone of a colleague.
