- January 25, 1924 – The 1924 Winter Olympics opens in Chamonix, France (in the French Alps), inaugurating the Winter Olympic Games.
- February 5, 1924 – New Year’s Day in Chinese calendar. Start of the year of the Wood Rat in Chinese astrology.
- February 14, 1924 – The Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company changes its name to International Business Machines Corporation (IBM).
- February 22, 1924 – U.S. President Calvin Coolidge becomes the first President to deliver a radio broadcast from the White House.
- March 3, 1924 – The 1400-year-old Islamic caliphate is abolished when Caliph Abdul Mejid II of the Ottoman Empire is deposed. The last remnant of the old regime gives way to the reformed Turkey of Kemal Atatürk.
- March 8, 1924 – The Castle Gate mine disaster kills 172 coal miners near Castle Gate, Utah.
- April 18, 1924 – Simon & Schuster publishes the first crossword puzzle book.
- May 10, 1924 – J. Edgar Hoover is appointed the Director of the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation, and remains so until his death in 1972.
- May 31, 1924 – The Soviet Union signs an agreement with the Peking government, referring to Outer Mongolia as an “integral part of the Republic of China”, whose “sovereignty” therein the Soviet Union promises to respect.
- June 9, 1924 – In the second attempt to climb Mount Everest, George Mallory and Andrew “Sandy” Irvine disappear, possibly having first made it to the top.
- June 10, 1924 – Fascists kidnap and kill Italian Socialist leader Giacomo Matteotti in Rome.
- June 16, 1924 – The Whampoa Military Academy is founded.
- June 26, 1924 – American occupying forces leave the Dominican Republic.
- July 24, 1924 – Archeologist Themistoklis Sofoulis becomes Prime Minister of Greece.
- September 17, 1924 – The Border Defence Corps is established in the Second Polish Republic for the defence of the eastern border against armed Soviet raids and local bandits.
- October 25, 1924 – The forged Zinoviev Letter is published in the Daily Mail, wrecking the British Labour Party’s hopes of re-election.
- October 31, 1924 – World Savings Day is announced in Milan, Italy by the Members of the Association at the 1st International Savings Bank Congress (World Society of Savings Banks).
- December 19, 1924 – The last Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost is sold in London, England.
- December 20, 1924 – Hitler is released from Landsberg Prison
- December 24, 1924 – Albania becomes a republic.
