- January 29, 1819 – Stamford Raffles lands on the island of Singapore.

- February 7, 1819 – Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles leaves Singapore after just taking it over, leaving it in the hands of William Farquhar.
- February 17, 1819 – The United States House of Representatives passes the Missouri Compromise for the first time.
- February 19, 1819 – British explorer William Smith discovers the South Shetland Islands, and claims them in the name of King George III.
- February 22, 1819 – By the Adams-Onís Treaty, Spain sells Florida to the United States for five million U.S. dollars.
- May 22, 1819 – The SS Savannah leaves port at Savannah, Georgia, United States, on a voyage to become the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The ship arrived at Liverpool, England on June 20.

- June 20, 1819 – The U.S. vessel SS Savannah arrives at Liverpool, England, United Kingdom. She is the first steam-propelled vessel to cross the Atlantic, although most of the journey is made under sail.

- August 6, 1819 – Norwich University is founded in Vermont as the first private military school in the United States.
- August 7, 1819 – Simón Bolívar triumphs over Spain in the Battle of Boyacá.
- August 16, 1819 – Seventeen people die and over 600 are injured in cavalry charges at a public meeting at St. Peter’s Field, Manchester, England.
