- January 17, 1799 – Maltese patriot Dun Mikiel Xerri, along with a number of other patriots, is executed.
- March 7, 1799 – Napoleon Bonaparte captures Jaffa in Palestine and his troops proceed to kill more than 2,000 Albanian captives.
- April 16, 1799 – Napoleonic Wars: The Battle of Mount Tabor – Napoleon drives Ottoman Turks across the River Jordan near Acre.
- May 4, 1799 – Fourth Anglo-Mysore War: The Battle of Seringapatam: The siege of Seringapatam ends when the city is invaded and Tipu Sultan killed by the besieging British army, under the command of General George Harris.
- May 27, 1799 – War of the Second Coalition: Austrian forces defeats the French at Winterthur, Switzerland, securing control of the northeastern Swiss Plateau because of the town’s location at the junction of seven cross-roads.
- July 15, 1799 – The Rosetta Stone is found in the Egyptian village of Rosetta by French Captain Pierre-François Bouchard during Napoleon’s Egyptian Campaign.
- July 25, 1799 – At Aboukir in Egypt, Napoleon I of France defeats 10,000 Ottomans under Mustafa Pasha.
- August 23, 1799 – Napoleon leaves Egypt for France en route to seize power.
- August 30, 1799 – The entire Dutch fleet is captured by British forces under the command of Sir Ralph Abercromby and Admiral Sir Charles Mitchell during the Second Coalition of the French Revolutionary Wars.
- September 19, 1799 – French Revolutionary Wars: French-Dutch victory against the Russians and British in the Battle of Bergen.
- October 9, 1799 – Sinking of HMS Lutine, with the loss of 240 men and a cargo worth £1,200,000.
- November 9, 1799 – Napoleon Bonaparte leads the Coup d'état of 18 Brumaire ending the Directory government, and becoming one of its three Consuls (Consulate Government).
- December 3, 1799 – War of the Second Coalition: Battle of Wiesloch, Austrian Lieutenant Field Marshal Sztáray de Nagy-Mihaly defeats the French at Wiesloch.
- December 10, 1799 – France adopts the metre as its official unit of length.
- December 26, 1799 – Four thousand people attend George Washington’s funeral where Henry Lee declares him as “first in war, first in peace and first in the hearts of his countrymen.”
