What Happened In Year 1755?
- January 25, 1755 – Moscow University is established on Tatiana Day.
- April 2, 1755 – Commodore William James captures the pirate fortress of Suvarnadurg on west coast of India.
- April 15, 1755 – Samuel Johnson’s A Dictionary of the English Language is published in London.
- May 15, 1755 – Laredo, Texas is established by the Spaniards.
- June 16, 1755 – French and Indian War: the French surrender Fort Beauséjour to the British, leading to the expulsion of the Acadians.
- July 9, 1755 – French and Indian War: Braddock Expedition – British troops and colonial militiamen are ambushed and suffer a devastating defeat by French and Native American forces.
- July 25, 1755 – British governor Charles Lawrence and the Nova Scotia Council order the deportation of the Acadians. Thousands of Acadians are sent to the British Colonies in America, France and England. Some later move to Louisiana, while others resettle in New Brunswick.
- August 10, 1755 – Under the orders of Charles Lawrence, the British Army begins to forcibly deport the Acadians from Nova Scotia to the Thirteen Colonies.
- September 8, 1755 – French and Indian War: Battle of Lake George.
- November 1, 1755 – Lisbon earthquake: In Portugal, Lisbon is destroyed by a massive earthquake and tsunami, killing between sixty thousand and ninety thousand people.
- November 25, 1755 – King Ferdinand VI of Spain grants royal protection to the Beaterio de la Compañia de Jesus, now known as the Congregation of the Religious of the Virgin Mary.
- December 2, 1755 – The second Eddystone Lighthouse is destroyed by fire.
