- January 8, 1499 – Louis XII of France marries Anne of Brittany.
- May 19, 1499 – Catherine of Aragon is married by proxy to Arthur Tudor, Prince of Wales. Catherine is 13 and Arthur is 12.
- July 10, 1499 – Portuguese explorer Nicolau Coelho returns to Lisbon, after discovering the sea route to India as a companion of Vasco da Gama.
- July 22, 1499 – Battle of Dornach – The Swiss decisively defeat the Imperial army of Emperor Maximilian I.
- August 12, 1499 – First engagement of the Battle of Zonchio between Venetian and Ottoman fleets.
- September 22, 1499 – Treaty of Basel: Switzerland becomes an independent state.
- November 5, 1499 – Publication of the Catholicon in Tréguier (Brittany). This Breton-French-Latin dictionary was written in 1464 by Jehan Lagadeuc. It is the first Breton dictionary as well as the first French dictionary.
- November 23, 1499 – Pretender to the throne Perkin Warbeck is hanged for reportedly attempting to escape from the Tower of London. He had invaded England in 1497, claiming to be the lost son of King Edward IV of England.
